Week 1

03.02.2025

The first kick-off meeting with the project manager. The whole project’s aim was discussed and the tasks were given for the first week, such as

  • Doing the research and developing the hypothesis;
  • Making a plan and a protocol;
  • Doing the literature review and finding useful videos;
  • Get acquainted with Fusion and creation of CAD model;
  • Proposing the first CAD design of the forearm.

All the tasks were splitted among the members for the upcoming week.  All members were doing the literature review to gather necessary information for making the protocol.

The tikiwiki website layout was discussed and the specific sections were created and assigned to each member. Several video tutorials were found and the ultrasound measuring protocol was made. The methodology for scanning of the residual limb with the structure sensor was discussed and studied. Gantt's chart was finished and the group continued with the literature review to find the articles with similar methodology. For the next meeting it was scheduled to:

  • Perform the experiment:
    • Download all necessary softwares
    • Scan the forearm region with the structure sensor
    • Make a first design in Fusion 3D
    • Print the socket for forearm using the 3D printer

05.02.2025

“2D and 3D Design and Fabrication” training on the Saints-Pères campus. Visit to the OpenLab, 3D design training on Fusion 360. Some 3D models of the amputated limbs were downloaded from the internet and the softwares such as Fusion 360 and MeshMixer were used to make the design of the socket.

The second meeting with the project manager. The project’s next steps were discussed and further tasks were given:

  • Perform the first experiment by scanning the forearm region for practice
  • Develop the first prototype to start 3D printing
  • Next meeting was scheduled to Thursday
  • “Why?, how? and what?” should be derived from literature review (why is it so difficult to assess bone-muscle displacement?)

The experimental part was performed such that arms of all members were scanned using a Structure Sensor. First the sensor was carefully calibrated and then a pilot scanning experiment was done.

Three .obj files were obtained to work further in a MeshMixer software.

For the next week:

  • Each member should try to design a socket for one arm with different design:
    • With screws
    • With velcro tape
    • With ratchet buckle system

07.02.2025

The background of the prosthesis is under development and several useful articles for that were found. MeshMixer software and Fusion 360 were studied and used to start developing the design of the socket. The literature review was done, some articles on done displacement were studied. The background for the scanner was started.
