Week 5
03.03.2025
We finally received the CAD file of the probe.
The cost section was created and all expenses were indicated in a table.
The meeting was conducted with the project manager and the tasks for this week are:
- Scan the leg
- Create the socket for the probe using the CAD file
- Come up with the new design for the socket of the leg
- Make separate parts to make the printing easier
For the proof of the concept we designed small parts with the holes of 7 and 8 mm. So that the special drilling tool could be used to make the threads. These small parts were done and sent to the project manager to be printed.
04.03.2025
The parts were successfully printed, and threads were created using the drilling tool, confirming the concept. Through this process, we determined that the hole tolerance should be 0.75 mm instead of 1 mm. Moving forward, when designing holes, we should account for this adjustment. For instance, if the desired hole diameter is 4 mm, the initial design should specify a 3.75 mm diameter, as the threads are small.
The new design is still under development and Fusion 360 tutorials have been studied to make a Boolean difference with the tolerance.
05.03.2025
The CAD file of the probe was inserted into the Meshmixer to add some tolerance and the whole day was devoted to that. It was extremely difficult to preserve the geometry and shape of the original probe while making an offset of 1 mm. Even if we made a mesh in Meshmixer we could not convert it to the fusion (.f3d) part. Then, when we finally achieved this, the draft with the tolerance had some uncertainties such that the top part did not correspond to the actual dimensions.
06.03.2025
The first design of the socket for the probe was created using only the screws to connect the parts. Then it was sent to the project manager for the evaluation. Other designs are under development.
07.03.2025
The other drafts of two designs were ready. One was using a “click in” system, while the other one had a sliding system into the socket for the leg. The charger for the structure sensor was ordered and the scanning experiment will be scheduled upon its arrival.
